Sir Paul McCartney first gained world-wide fame as one of The Beatles. McCartney released his debut solo album, "McCartney", in April 1970. He insisted that his wife should be involved in his musical career so that they would not be apart when he was on tour. McCartney's second solo album, "Ram" (1971) was credited to both Paul and Linda McCartney. In 1977, Wings released "Mull of Kintyre". It stayed at #1 in the UK for nine weeks, and was the highest-selling single in the UK until 1984.
Although McCartney's relationship with John Lennon was troubled, they reconciled during the 1970s, McCartney was deeply saddened by the news of Lennons death in 1980. In the early 1990s, McCartney reunited with Harrison and Starr to work on Apple's "The Beatles Anthology" documentary series. It included three double albums of alternative takes, live recordings, and previously unreleased Beatles songs, as well as a ten-hour video boxed set.
